I started with Fisher and Paykel in 2014 as part of their graduate program. I initially joined the customer interfaces team, developing handles, dials and oven racking for wall ovens and ranges.

I worked on resolving production issues such as light bleed on control panels, and corrosion on diecast components.

In my later role as  a reliability engineer I focused on developing part and subsystem FMEA and resulting test plans, creating test procedures, and performing life testing on products, including outdoor grills and dishwashers. Warranty analysis was also a large aspect of this role.

Clockwise from top center: MDF and acrylic prototype water tank for usability testing, production water tank in product, render of oven handle, investment cast samples of handle endcaps, oven racking, before and after icon light bleed, prototype and final foam part for light bleed.

I’ve been fortunate to visit 3 of our manufacturing sites to assist with manufacturing trials, which has given me great insight into how an engineer’s decision in the office can have a lasting impact on the factory line, both good and bad.

I had a secondment to Chief Engineer/Project Manager, focusing on Dishwasher warranty reduction, while my most recent role has been as a Business Analyst for SmartHQ, the connected appliance app for Fisher and Paykel Appliances. This allowed me the opportunity to influence not only the app but also the product experience, something I had been keen to do more of for some time.
