I’ve just returned to Melbourne after 10 years in “Sunny Dunedin” New Zealand, to start a family, leaving behind an exciting role in connected home appliances. I came sideways into being a Business Analyst, having slowly morphed into the role as I got deeper into app and product UX and testing in my previous role as a Product Reliability Engineer. Prior to my role in reliability and verification, I worked as a Product Development Engineer focused on the touch points of ovens including handles, dials, shelving and control panels. On top of my role, I was involved in our site sustainability projects, focused on ways to encourage active transport for all staff.
On the side, I have worked to design and develop a menstrual cup for sustainable startup CoralCone; $2 NZD from the sale of each cup goes to ocean cleanup with Live Ocean. A cup had been on my bucket list for some time, and I couldn’t respond to the email request for an engineer fast enough.
While completing my Product Design Engineering degree at Swinburne University, I interned at Designer Doorware in an engineering role, and for Metro trains on behalf of the university; retrofitting their Comeng trains with a door handle designed to reduce catching and forcing of doors.
Beyond my professional life, I’m a bit bike mad. I’ve commuted on my DIY ebike for 5+ years now, rain hail or snow; the motor makes Dunedin’s notorious hills a breeze. I restore vintage bicycles, and maintain a small collection of New Zealand made bikes. I love riding the South Island’s rail trails, and hope to to expand into longer touring journeys. I also enjoy 3D printing, whether it be fixing broken things, or creating new ideas.
